We did this exact same route last weekend. It is such a good ride we decided to do it again, but double the fun.
We did the first "lap" at almost exactly the same pace as last weekend (only 20 seconds slower out of 3 hours and 15 minutes). It wasn't nearly as cold, plus we were prepared in case it was, so it was much a more enjoyable ride today.
We get back to the car for lunch -- for me a bran muffin and a coke. The coke is a new thing for me during a ride. I usually wait until after the ride and gulp down 32 ounces. But I figure if it works for Chris Horner on the Tour de France then it is good enough for yours truly. Seemed to work great. Didn't have any stomach issues at all. Or maybe it was the bran muffin. Either way, looks like I've got new choices for food on a long ride.
So anyway, we feel pretty good and get going on Lap No. 2. Amy is concerned that her heart rate is higher than it should be. After a while it seemed to migrate to where it should be. We tried to push it fairly hard, but at the same time it was kinda hard to push it when your legs are so tired. So the second lap was a bit slower, but in the big scheme of things it wasn't bad at all, being only 6 minutes slower than the first one.
The cool thing was that I actually felt pretty good toward the end of the ride. That's always a good sign.
The weather today really couldn't have been any better. Nice and cool for most of the ride, yet not cold. Cool weather is great when you are climbing on a bicycle. And it warmed up to a comfortable temperature for the final descent into Troutdale, but again not too hot. I guess it was a Goldilocks ride.
Oh, and no flat tires. Just right!
