Larch Mountain (Oregon)

Quick Stats
Distance: 99 miles
Elevation Gain: 4758 feet
Average Moving Speed: 13.94 mph

We road from our house all the way to Larch Mountain in Oregon, and back. Started early and the riding weather was perfect up to the top. It had gotten sunny on the way up, but the forest canopy kept us cool on the climb.

The descent was comfortable too. But once we hit the flat and lost our shade around Troutdale it was awfully hot. The headwind on Marine Drive didn't help either. We stopped at Taco Bell in Jantzen Beach and grabbed some ice water and it was a wonderful pick-me-up for the remaining stretch home.

Tour des Chutes

Quick Stats
Distance: 89 miles
Elevation Gain: 3767 feet (from TrimbleOutdoors since phone gave odd value)
Average Moving Speed: 16.29 mph

Tour des BUMP.

or..

Tour des SHOOT, SHOOT, SHOOT, SHOOT!

Bumps were horrible on a significant stretch of the roads. You can't avoid the nasty bumps cuz they cross the whole road, and are only separated by 10 or maybe 20 yards. Lovely experience. Amy got a flat that sounded like, well, nasty. The rider who passed next asked if she was okay, having heard the noise.

NOT a keeper ride. A bit hot too. If it weren't for the bumps it would have been a great ride.

Seattle to Portland, Day 2

Quick Stats
Distance: 59 miles
Elevation Gain: 2579 feet
Average Moving Speed: 16.5 mph

Rain, rain, go away!

Road was moist but not overly wet until about a 10 mile stretch around the rest stop at St. Helens during which time it showered fairly constant.

Felt surprisingly good, considering our longest ride ever on the day before.

Seattle to Portland, Day 1

Quick Stats
Distance: 142 miles
Elevation Gain: 2187 feet
Average Moving Speed: 16.63 mph

Stayed at the Residence Inn in Bellevue. That place is NICE. On the way there Friday night we scouted out an alternate starting route so we could avoid the madness at UW. We liked what we saw and went with it, officially getting moving at 5:12 a.m.

Support was techically okay, but for $90 we shouldn't have to pay for nothin'. And the scenery was nothing to write home about.

We wanted to do it in one day, but I couldn't do it. Amy probably could have. She is awesome.

142 miles isn't bad though.
