10-mile Time Trial

Quick Stats
Distance: 10 miles
Elevation Gain: 0 feet
Average Moving Speed: 20.48 mph

Another time trial down on the flat toward Frenchman's Bar.

Did it in 29:18 at average heart rate of 158.

Only 3 seconds faster than prior time trial, but with heart rate 2 beats higher? Weird.

  1. On my recovery ride yesterday I held an average heart rate of about 120 for an hour and went 16.7 miles.

So a 32% increase in heart rate yields a speed boost of 23%. However, since my resting heart rate, or baseline, is about 50, it is probably more accurate to make it the starting point (like zero). So with that adjustment it is more like a 54% increase in heart rate give 23% speed boost.

In other words, it takes (me) a lot of energy to get a little more speed. :-O
